Menurut Sylvia Verralls (2003, Hlm. 141). Miometrium merupakan otot yang menyusun bagian terbesar uterus selama masa kehidupan seksual aktif. Serabut otot involunter saling bercampur dengan jaringan areolar, pembuluh darah, saluran limfa dan serabut saraf. Serabut otot sirkuler di bagian dalam dan otot longitudinal di bagian luar berlanjut sebagai serabut otot yang sesuai pada tuba Fallopii, dan bersama dengan serabut otot sirkuler involunter membentuk ligamen penggantung uterus, memasuki uterus untuk menyatu dengan serabut-serabut longitudinal dan sirkuler di sana.
